SPEAKERS

Dominik Bertin, EDF

Within the EDF Lab Asia based in Singapore, Dominik is supervising the research activities in relation with electric mobility, hydrogen, storage and quantum computing supporting EDF group ambition in the region. Previously he was in France working at Enedis the French electricity Distribution System Operator (DSO), overseeing the deployment of electric mobility projects in Paris from residential customers to the electrification of the Paris’ bus fleet in the perspective of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Before that, Dominik was in the UK with EDF Energy, developing innovative energy solutions for residential customers, industry and authorities to face the environmental and energy challenges throughout their low carbon journey with a focus on energy efficiency and smart metering deployment. Before joining EDF Energy teams in the UK, he was project manager on energy efficiency and electrification of industrial processes mainly large furnaces supporting EDF’s French commercial division following five years of experience in the aero engine industry working for SAFRAN and General Electric Aviation in Paris and Cincinnati.

Hanhee Paik, IBM

Dr. Hanhee Paik is a Sr. Research Scientist at IBM Quantum. She focussed on understanding the coherence mechanisms of superconducting qubits and developing superconducting quantum processor architectures including IBM Quantum’s 16-qubit processors. Dr. Paik pioneered the novel design of a superconducting qubit that helped the industry push the quality of quantum computing performance, greatly impacting the quantum computing community. Her focus now is to develop the global quantum ecosystem. Dr. Paik is an APS (American Physical Society) Fellow since 2021 and contributes to the advancement of quantum computing research in the industry.

Patrick Pang Ki Khoon, AWS

As Chief Technologist (CT) for ASEAN, Worldwide Public Sector at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Patrick serves as a trusted technical advisor to government agency and other public sector customers in South-East Asia, primarily at the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) level. Along with his fellow CTs, who cover other segments and geographies, he works to influence the evolution of AWS’s sales and services roadmaps to meet customers’ strategic needs.

Prior to joining AWS, Patrick had served twenty-four years in the Singapore Government, in various capacities. The latest had been as CTO at the National Environment Agency of Singapore, where he drove R&D into waste-to-resource and environmental robotics, as well as various science and technology plans, systems and projects. Earlier, he had served at the National Research Foundation (on Singapore’s inaugural R&D plan and budget for digital economy), the then-Infocomm Development Authority (nationwide fibre broadband and wireless networks), the Ministry of Home Affairs (counter-terror technologies), and the then-National Computer Board (network and communication technologies).

Patrick holds Master and Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science, Technology, and Society, from Stanford University, and a Master of Science in Management degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Tan Dunlin, Thales

Dunlin is Director of Thales Research & Technology in Thales Solutions Asia since 2021, overseeing research directions, joint labs, partnerships and technology translation on quantum technology, materials science and AI. Previously she managed relationships with the Group and academic partnerships at joint lab CINTRA between CNRS, NTU and Thales in which she set up transverse research activities to bridge academia and industry, and led AI programme for materials design. She also managed bids and projects and led R&T on nanomaterials. She holds a patent on RF isolation technique using carbon nanotubes.

She started her R&D career in NTU in 2007 on joint work with SIMTech, A*STAR and with Technion, Israel.

Dunlin completed her Ph.D (2016), Master’s degree (2009, EEE), and Bachelor’s degree (2005, EEE) in Nanyang Technological University.

MODERATOR

Rakesh Jaiswal, National Quantum Office

Mr Rakesh Jaiswal has a joint appointment as CIEO (Chief I&E Officer) in NQO (National Quantum Office) a National Platform in A*STAR and holds a main appointment as Director of Electronics in A*STAR I&E Division. As CIEO in NQO he develops and drives implementation of a go-to market and enterprise strategy for quantum. Leads NQO’s response to key companies’ interest to deepen collaboration on national quantum projects. As Director in A*STAR I&E division he oversees A*STAR’s industry/eco-system development and IP strategy for Semiconductor/Electronics companies and its value chain partners. He works closely with stakeholders across the R&D ecosystem as well as with government agencies to shape future enterprise development in Singapore.

Prior to joining A*STAR, Rakesh was in industry for 25 years in regional and global management and functional roles, mostly with US Fortune 500 MNCs. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and holds an Executive MBA from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has also presented thought-pieces at global conferences and IEEE proceedings.
